Women Leaders in Education: Debunking the myth that women are not as good in science, technology, engineering and math as men.
  • Discuss the current status of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
  • Learn what the State of Minnesota is doing to encourage young women to go into STEM.
  • Explore how GWIS support women in science.

Women Scientists in Leadership Roles in Academia: Debunking the myths.
    Moderator: Maura Lerner, Medical Reporter, Mpls-St. Paul Star Tribune
    Addressing the following myths:
  • Women are not as competitive as men.
  • Women don't want jobs in academe.
  • Academe is a meritocracy.
  • Women faculty are less productive than men.
  • Women are more interested in family than in careers.
  • Women take more time off due to childbearing, so they are a bad investment.
  • The system as currently configured has worked well in producing great science; so there is no need to change it.
