of Diane Wotta, Ph.D.
Diane’s scientific career began when she received a Bachelor degree in Medical Technology from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. She worked for seven years as a Medical Technologist in both the hematology and the biochemistry departments at the county hospital in St. Paul, MN. She then attained a new position at 3 M Pharmaceuticals in the New Molecule Research division. Her work as a research biochemist focused on designing screening assays and screening potential drug candidates for use as anti-asthmatics.
At this time in her career, Diane decided to pursue a
Ph.D. degree and was accepted to the Department of Pharmacology at
the University of Minnesota. Diane’s doctoral research focused on opioid
receptor regulation of ion channels. After receiving her Ph.D., Diane pursued
post-doctoral
training in the Division of Neuroscience Research in Psychiatry at
the University of Minnesota looking at muscarinic receptor signal transduction.
After completing two years of post-doctoral training,
Diane went to work as a Scientist at R&D Systems, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN. She worked in the Molecular Biology department for 2.5 years and was then promoted to Manager of the Cell Culture department. Diane’s
current group in the Cell Culture Production Department generates
small- and large-scale (1-250 Liter) mammalian cell culture material to
support
over 2500 protein, antibody and ELISA kit products. Diane also manages
the Support Services and Product Finishing Departments.
Diane lives in Shoreview, MN with her husband Paul.
They have two sons who are currently in college leaving Diane and
Paul “empty nesters”.
Diane enjoys reading, gardening and working out in her spare time.
