Bio of Dr. Helen Haller

GWIS Treasurer Helen Haller.Helen Downs Haller joined the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Delta Epsilon Dec. 6, 1964, as a graduate student in biochemical engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. After receiving her Ph.D. (1967) she moved to Chicago for nine years, and participated in the activities of Chi Chapter while there. She returned to Ithaca as a post-doc in 1976, and was active in Alpha Chapter, holding almost all chapter offices at one time or another, until she moved to Rochester, NY in 1993. Her professional career has included lab research in biochemical engineering in various capacities, at American Oil Company and at Cornell University, and later four years of teaching in the Chemical Engineering Department at Cornell. In 1988 she became a freelance editor, working on a number of books in chemical engineering, biotechnology, and other technical areas before retiring in 2003. Her service to National SDE/GWIS includes Editor (1979-1984), Assistant Secretary (1985-1986), Secretary (1986-1991), President (1998-1999), and Treasurer (2003-present), and membership on several national committees
