Biography of Kate Staley

Kate Staley died on December 16, 1985 at the age of 92. She had obtained her B.A. at Wells in 1914, and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1923. She was head of physical education at Wellesley from 1917 to 1923 and taught physiology to nurses at the University of Wisconsin from 1925 to 1938.

In 1938 she moved to Evanston and became an assistant to Dr. Margery Carlson. With Dr. Carlson she traveled on various expeditions to Panama, Mexico, and Europe.

She was a member of Lambda Chapter of SDE-GWIS at Northwestern, and when Lambda merged with Eta to form Chi Chapter in Chicago, she became a member of Chi. She was also a member of AAUW, Wells Alumni, Wildlife Preserve, Save the Dunes, Presbyterian Council, and League of Women Voters.
