GWIS Reminders

GWIS Elections will take place during the Grand Chapter meeting in Sioux Falls, SD on June 16, 2017. Candidates for 2017 GWIS National Officers have been announced and can be found on our website.

The first GWIS Orientation Webinar will take place on June 5th, 2017 at 5PM EST (2PM PST). GWIS President, Dr. Stacey Kigar, will provide a general overview of our organization, information on our current work, and ways for members to get more involved with GWIS. We hope you will join us! Please register by May 22nd, 2017.

Chapter News
Dr. Patricia Silveyra of Hershey, PA Chapterassistant professor of pediatrics and a research associate in the Penn State College of Medicine, was recently awarded one of the two University’s “All In at Penn State” achievement awards. The honor recognizes a student, faculty or staff member for embodying the University’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Dr. Silveyra was also a recipient of the 2012 GWIS Adele Grant Lewis Fellowship (the highest ranking applicant nationwide). Her laboratory investigates various genetic and environmental factors that contribute to the development of asthma. 

 
State College Chapter Has a Successful Girl Scout Workshop
Members of the State College chapter held their Bi-annual Girl Scout workshop with the theme "Think like a Scientist." On April 9th, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade young women interested in learning more about STEM came to the event to learn some hands-on science activities and practice critical thinking skills. 

 
Mid-Michigan Holds Painting Social
Members of the Mid-Michigan chapter gathered to enjoy great company and showcase their creativity. The results were stunning and a good time was had by all!
