Setting yourself up for a Successful Semester

Coffee with LaptopThis month, we will host our monthly virtual coffee and conversation featuring GWIS President, Dr. Amy Belfi, and GWIS President-Elect, Dr. Gina Moreno, called "Setting yourself up for a Successful Semester." Amy and Gina will share tips on preparing for the new academic year. You bring the coffee and we'll provide conversation! This month's coffee and conversation will take place on Monday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. CDT. GWIS members can register here.

We also want your feedback! We want to connect with as many of our members for these virtual coffee and conversations as possible. If you are interested in joining a virtual coffee and conversation but the meeting time does not work for you, please register anyways! We will send you a link to a recording of the meeting and you will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on what time(s) would work better for you or what topics you would be interested in discussing in the future.

In late November, we will host a virtual meeting on applying for the GWIS Fellowship. Please consider taking the following survey to indicate your time preference for our annual virtual Fellowship meeting

We have three named awards, one for research, one for teaching, and one for early career scientists (less than seven years post PhD graduation). Nominating your choice couldn't be simpler! Chapter News
Los Angeles's first outreach event was a success. The members partnered with Project Scientist to give 30 young girls tours of seven laboratories in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Southern California. The girls from Project Scientist were able to visit and talk with chemists from several areas of Chemistry, including Organic, Inorganic, and Chemical Biology.

Greater Maryland's members had a wonderful social event at Black Ankle Vineyards. From solar panels and geothermal heating to creating their buildings out of the materials found in their vineyard, Black Ankle has focused on their use of resources.
