Join us for the 2019 National Conference
in Rapid City from June 20-22

The Black Hills Chapter will be hosting the GWIS annual business meetings on Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21, as well as a scientific conference on Saturday, June 22. This year's conference theme is "Communicating Science to Connect, Lead, and Empower!" 

The conference will take place at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota. Registration can be found here (or by following the button below). Abstract Submission for our poster session and 5-minute 'lightning' talks is also available.

May Coffee & Conversation: Careers in Policy and Government

On Tuesday, May 14th at 3:00 p.m. CST, we will host a talk with 2 scientists who work in policy and government-related positions. We are excited to talk with Dr. Audrey Davidson Thévenon, a Program Officer with the Board on Life Sciences at theNational Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and Dr. Michelle Rozo, a Senior National Security Advisor with the U.S. Department of State’s Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) office. They will chat with us about the job opportunities and the job search process in their area of work. We hope you can join us to hear about their experiences and advice and to ask questions about your own job search!

Journal of Neuroscience Research call for submissions
Let’s celebrate women neuroscientists!  The Journal of Neuroscience Research (JNR) is putting together a special issue with all women primary or corresponding authors. Their goal is to highlight stellar work by women neuroscientists and take advantage of the fast, peer-review system already in place at JNR at a key junction in our careers. This issue will be released on International Women’s Day (March 8th) 2020. It also follows JNR’s previously published and highly successful issue on sex/gender influences on nervous system function.  They invite GWIS members to submit new research manuscripts, scientific reviews on your field of interest and/or perspective articles on your career. Chapter News
Research Triangle Chapter co-hosted the third annual Spring Into STEM event along with Young Women In Bio RTP on April 27th. More than 40 students participated in a variety of STEM learning activities including "Clearing a Path to the Heart" and "DNA Detectives"
Northern Colorado Chapter sponsored the seminar, Bridging Science and Policy, featuring U.S. Senate candidate, Dr. Trish Zornio on April 19th. Dr. Zornio is running on a platform of using her scientific background to address national issues with science and technology.
Hawaii Chapter volunteered with Girls on the Run Hawaii to support the girls and boys participating in their end of the semester 5K on April 20th. Before and after the fun run, they held a DIY Bath Bomb-making and Volcano Science station where the students could relax and ask questions about volcanic eruptions and bath bomb ingredient chemistry.
