Advice on Workplace concerns: Professional Bullying and Harassment

This section of the GWIS website is the product of a small group of GWIS members who, in 2018, created a working group to address issues of Academic and Professional Bullying and Harassment. This group is known as “Scientists Against Professional Harassment (SAPH)”. The mission of SAPH is to define and quantify professional (e.g., academic, government, private industry) bullying and harassment within scientific fields using data collection and analysis, and to provide resources for affected individuals to help them respond to and survive these encounters. This group aims to increase transparency of these issues within scientific workplaces, and to promote inclusion and equity for healthy scientific environments through a transdisciplinary initiative. We have compiled information and created resources to be beneficial for GWIS members and friends.

Individuals should not engage in harassment, bullying, or discrimination. Further information regarding definitions of harassment, bullying, or discrimination can be found here.

Information and Resources

The goal of this list is to provide additional resources that may be useful to GWIS members and friends in understanding situations of ethical confusion relating to research and professional behaviors. We have compiled this noncomprehensive list of guides to professional conduct and sources of ethical information.
